Carol Giles
Carol is an emerging artist, currently living in Tjukurla. Carol’s mother’s place is Pilge and her father’s country is between Kurlkurta and south-west of Kurlkurta. Carol draws upon her strong knowledge of Tjukurpa and her mother and father’s country whilst painting. As a child, Carol was taken to Warburton mission with her family and later they walked to Docker River.
Ngayaku Ngurra Wilurrara
This is my country, northwest of Tjukurla. It’s a very important place, ngurra pulkana. This dreaming near Kulkurta. It’s about ladies at that place. I got these freckles and spots on my body. That’s the Tjukurrpa (Dreaming). Ladies walking around in the bush, collecting little black berries. I was walking all round there as a young girl, getting that bush food. And now I’m painting the kapi (waterhole) and landscape there.
